Cathy Mondloch is a Professor in the Department of Psychology at Brock University, specializing in developmental and perceptual psychology. Her research focuses on face perception, emotion recognition, and social cognition, with particular emphasis on developmental stages and cross-cultural/age differences. She leads the Face Perception Lab, supported by grants from SSHRC and NSERC. Her work integrates cutting-edge technologies like eye-tracking and EEG to investigate how facial identity, emotions, and social traits are perceived across the lifespan.
Dr. Mondloch holds a Ph.D. from Indiana University. Her research has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the 2011 NSERC Discovery Accelerator Supplement and the 2015 Brock University Award for Distinguished Research. She collaborates internationally and mentors numerous graduate and undergraduate students, many of whom have contributed to her published work.
Key research areas include first impressions, face recognition development, and the influence of body postures on emotion perception. Her studies address applied issues such as eyewitness testimony and cultural perception, with findings featured in media like the TV show *To Catch a Killer*.
Dr. Mondloch’s lab explores topics such as the other-race effect, aging face recognition, and neural mechanisms underlying face processing. She investigates how familiarity and variability in facial images affect learning, with implications for understanding autism and eyewitness identification challenges.
