Cathy Day is a Professor of English at Ball State University, serving as Acting Chair of the Department of English since 2017 and previously as Assistant Chair of Operations from 2014-2017. She holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Alabama (1995) and a B.A. in English from DePauw University (1991). Her work focuses on creative writing pedagogy and regional literature, with notable publications including the nonfiction Comeback Season (2008) and the story collection The Circus in Winter (2004), which explores her hometown of Peru, Indiana. Her writing has been translated into German and Czech and has garnered awards such as finalist nominations for the Story Prize and Great Lakes Book Award.
Day’s research emphasizes innovative teaching methods in creative writing, as evidenced by her chapter “Our Town” in Breaking Boundaries: Innovative Approaches to Creative Writing. Her essays and short stories have appeared in The Literary Hub and PA NK, delving into themes of regional identity and cultural narratives.
