Cathrin Mohr serves as Associate Professor for International Political Economy and Geoeconomics at the University of Hamburg and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy since September 2025, concurrently holding the position of Research Director for the Research Center International Finance. Previously, she was a postdoctoral researcher and substitute professor of Macroeconomics at the University of Bonn and a postdoctoral researcher at LMU Munich.
Her academic credentials include a PhD summa cum laude from LMU Munich with the dissertation "The Power of the State in German History – Development and Political Economy", during which she was a visiting doctoral researcher at Harvard University's Weatherhead Center for International Affairs under Professor Daniel Ziblatt.
Professor Mohr's research integrates Political Economy, Geoeconomics, Geopolitics, and Economic History to examine state power dynamics, historical economic development, and contemporary geopolitical systems. Her work demonstrates particular expertise in analyzing historical institutional frameworks and their implications for modern economic policies.
Her scientific recognition includes the Unicredit Econ Job Market Best Paper Award received in 2019.
