Cathrin Bengesser

Cathrin Bengesser is an Associate Professor for Digital Media Industries at Aarhus University, Denmark. She is actively engaged in research on European media markets, with a focus on the transition from traditional broadcasting to video-on-demand (VoD) platforms. She leads the AUFF-funded project 'EUVoD' (2021–2024) and participates in the Horizon Europe project 'Crescine' (2023–2026), which aims to enhance the competitiveness of film industries in smaller European markets.

Her research interests lie at the intersection of digital media, cultural policy, and transnational audience dynamics. She specializes in European media regulation, streaming platforms, and the evolution of film and television industries in the digital age. Her work contributes to understanding how media policy shapes content distribution and audience behavior across national borders.

Bengesser is co-director of the Centre for Transnational Media Research at Aarhus University and chairs the Television Section of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA), reinforcing her leadership in media and communication studies. She has contributed to policy research for the European Commission's Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology, particularly on European production companies.

Her advisory and grant activities include leading externally funded research projects such as EUVoD and Crescine, demonstrating her role in securing competitive research funding. She collaborates across European institutions and contributes to shaping academic discourse in media industry studies.

The Centre for Transnational Media Research serves as a hub for interdisciplinary media scholarship, where she helps guide research on global media flows, digital transformation, and cultural policy.
