Catherine Waters is a Professor at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Nursing, holding the Sally Bates Endowed Chair in Community Nursing and Health Disparities since 2016. She earned her BSN (cum laude), MSN, and PhD in Nursing Science from the University of Miami, where she was a McKnight Fellow (1993).
- Education: University of Miami (BSN, MSN, PhD); Oregon Health Sciences University (Postdoctoral Fellow in Family Nursing and Gerontological Nursing).
Her research focuses on health disparities, public health nursing, and transcultural health across diverse populations including HIV-positive Black men, Palestinian refugees, Filipino Americans, and Latinx communities. Recent work analyzes SARS-CoV-2 transmission during civil protests and workplace physical activity behaviors.
She has authored 15+ publications (2017–2022) spanning journals such as American Journal of Public Health and Journal of Transcultural Nursing, emphasizing qualitative methodologies, community resilience, and social determinants of health.
