Catherine Scheer is a Visiting Professor at the French School of Asian Studies, associated with the Centre Asie du Sud-Est (CNRS/EHESS/INaLCO). Her work focuses on the intersection of Christian missions, development enterprises, and indigenous policies in Southeast Asian upland populations.

Her ethnographic surveys center on the Bunong people of Cambodia's highlands, exploring memory politics, cultural heritage, and colonial legacies in Southeast Asia. Her 2024 lecture-conference titled From Memorial Monument to the Murderer’s Celebration examines the archaeology of memory politics in Cambodia and Vietnam from 1941 to 2003, reflecting her expertise in political anthropology and postcolonial studies.
Current research trends highlight interdisciplinary approaches to indigenous oral traditions, contested historical narratives, and the impacts of colonial and postcolonial development policies on upland communities.
