Catherine Pelachaud is a Director of Research at ISIR (Institut des Systèmes Intelligents et de Robotique), Sorbonne University, where she conducts research on socially interactive virtual agents.
Her research focuses on embodied conversational agents, nonverbal communication (including facial expressions, gaze, and gestures), expressive behaviors, and socio-emotional agents. She has been developing Greta, an open-source platform for interactive virtual agents that can display emotional and communicative behaviors.
Dr. Pelachaud's work bridges artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, and social psychology to create virtual agents capable of adapting to users' nonverbal behaviors during interactions. Her research examines three levels of adaptation mechanisms: conversational strategy, nonverbal behaviors, and signals.
