Catherine Nickerson is an Associate Professor in the Department of English at Emory University, part of Emory College. She specializes in American literature and culture since 1860, with a focus on narrative, mystery, crime, and violence, particularly their intersections with race, gender, and class. Her work critiques historical processes through detective fiction analysis. She has edited major works like the Cambridge Companion to American Crime Fiction (2010) and co-led digitization projects on transatlantic genre fiction by women via the NEH-funded Emory Women Writers Project. Recent research explores childhood history, family dynamics, and adoption representations in American culture. She teaches courses on children’s literature and Asian American family memoirs.
