Catherine Moakes

Catherine Moakes is a Senior Medical Statistician at the Birmingham Clinical Trials Unit within the College of Medical and Dental Sciences at the University of Birmingham. With over 42 research outputs documented between 2017 and 2025, she has established herself as a key contributor to numerous high-impact clinical trials across multiple medical specialties.

Her research primarily focuses on randomized controlled trials methodology with expertise spanning vascular surgery (particularly the BASIL series investigating revascularization strategies for chronic limb-threatening ischemia), obstetrics/gynecology (including miscarriage management and prevention of preterm birth), and hepatology (focusing on variceal bleeding prevention in liver cirrhosis). Her work often bridges clinical medicine with advanced statistical methodology and health economic analysis.
