Catherine Mainland is a Senior Lecturer and Scheduling Officer in the Department of English at North Carolina State University. She holds a PhD in Germanic Languages and Literatures from UNC-Chapel Hill (2006) and an MA in English Literature from NC State (2008), in addition to her prior studies in German in Scotland. Her teaching spans American and Western World Literature surveys, ENG 305: Women and Literature, and Honors Program courses. She advises the MALS program’s graduate seminars.
Mainland’s research interests bridge multiple literary traditions, focusing on gender studies, 19th-century literature, and pedagogy. Recent work includes analyses of domestic colonialism in Elizabeth Gaskell and male hysteria in Hawthorne’s narratives. She presents widely on topics like German literature, comparative studies, and teaching methodologies.
