Dr Catherine Lyall is a researcher at the University of Bath, affiliated with the Material and Chemical Characterisation (MC2) facility. She is actively engaged in chemical research with a focus on advanced spectroscopic and catalytic methodologies.
Her research interests lie primarily in NMR spectroscopy, particularly operando and in-situ techniques for monitoring catalytic reactions. She specializes in organometallic catalysis, organic synthesis, and chemical characterisation, with applications in vitamin synthesis, biomass conversion, and heterocyclic chemistry. Her work integrates synthetic development with mechanistic understanding using cutting-edge analytical tools.
The recent publication trends highlight a strong focus on pyrrole and indole chemistry, flow NMR spectroscopy, and catalyst speciation. Her research bridges synthetic organic chemistry with physical methods to solve problems in sustainable and industrial chemistry.
Dr Lyall has secured and contributed to significant research funding, serving as Principal Investigator and Co-Investigator on multiple EPSRC projects, including the TSN ROKS Outreach Demonstrator Fund, X-CITE EPSRC Strategic Technical Platform, and the EPSRC Core Equip 2022 project focused on enhancing NMR excellence. These grants support advanced technical infrastructure and outreach in chemical characterisation.
She is involved in research supervision and collaborative work, as evidenced by her contributions to datasets and co-authorship on supervised research outputs. Her work is conducted within interdisciplinary teams focused on catalysis and materials characterisation at the University of Bath.
