Catherine Keniry is a Senior Lecturer and Senior Research Fellow in Medicine at Charles Sturt University's School of Rural Medicine, serving as Director of Research and Evaluation. She holds a BSc (Hons 1) in Genetics from the University of Sydney and a PhD in Molecular Plant Pathology from the University of Cambridge.
Her research focuses on enhancing rural health outcomes through initiatives addressing disparities in healthcare access, mental health, substance use disorders, diabetes, obesity, LGBTQI challenges in rural settings, and Indigenous health. Key roles include Co-Chair of the Western New South Wales Health Research Network and membership in the Charles Sturt University Human Research Ethics Committee.
Current projects include evaluating rural medical education programs, improving substance treatment services, and assessing opioid dependence interventions in Bourke. She has secured significant grants including a $1.25 million IDEAS grant for HIV PrEP access initiatives.
