Catherine Ingraham is a Professor of Architecture in the graduate architecture program at Pratt Institute in New York City. She previously served as Chair of Architecture at Pratt from 1999 to 2005. Her work focuses on expanding architectural discourse beyond traditional boundaries through theoretical and cultural analysis.
Her contributions to architectural culture include co-editing the influential journal Assemblage (1991–1998), alongside Michael Hays and Alicia Kennedy. This publication was pivotal in shaping contemporary architectural theory during its run. She has authored books such as Architecture, Animal, Human: The Asymmetrical Condition (2006) and Architecture and the Burdens of Linearity (1998), and has contributed to numerous academic journals.
Ingraham has held visiting professorships at Harvard University (1991, 1993), Columbia University (1989, 1990), Princeton University, and the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her research interests intersect architectural theory with broader cultural and environmental themes, emphasizing interdisciplinary dialogue.
