Catherine Taylor is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Art at Cornell University's College of Architecture, Art, and Planning. She is a founding co-director of the M.F.A. in Image Text program and ITI Press, an independent publisher dedicated to innovative essays and interdisciplinary creative work.
Her research and creative practice centers on interdisciplinary art, visual culture, experimental writing, and hybrid literary forms. Her work bridges literature, visual media, and cultural theory, often incorporating collaborative methods and found archival material. She explores themes of identity, violence, political history, and narrative innovation through mixed-genre memoirs, essays, and poetry.
Her recent publications reflect a strong trajectory in experimental and interdisciplinary forms, combining visual and textual elements to challenge conventional genres. These works engage with contemporary issues through poetic, theoretical, and autobiographical lenses, often published through independent and artist-run presses.

Taylor mentors emerging artists and writers through her leadership in the M.F.A. in Image Text program. She has co-founded significant initiatives including the Human Rights Watch Film Festival and Essay Press, demonstrating sustained engagement with public scholarship, creative publishing, and interdisciplinary collaboration. Her work is supported by prestigious fellowships and residencies rather than traditional research grants.
She is a core member of the Image Text Ithaca (ITI) initiative, which fosters a vibrant international community of writers, photographers, publishers, and educators through workshops, symposia, and the M.F.A. program. ITI Press continues to publish boundary-pushing creative and critical works under her co-direction.
