Catherine Hollis is the Chair of Carbonate Geoscience at the University of Manchester's Department of Earth and Environmental Science. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Geological Sciences from the University of Birmingham (1990) and a PhD from the University of Aberdeen (1995), focusing on burial diagenesis in limestones. Her research emphasizes carbonate sedimentology, diagenesis, and pore system evolution in carbonates. She has led major industrial consortia (e.g., PD3) and collaborated internationally with institutions in Canada, France, Germany, and Qatar.
Her work addresses critical themes like fault/fracture-controlled diagenesis, large-scale dolomitization, and porosity modification in Cretaceous carbonates of the Middle East/North Africa. She has supervised 14 PhD students and currently advises 5 more. Teaching includes MSc modules in carbonate sedimentology and fluid-rock interaction. She serves as President of the International Association of Sedimentologists (since 2022) and was an Associate Editor for Sedimentology (2014–2022).
