Catherine H. Borer is an Associate Professor of Biology and Department Chair at Berry College, with an affiliation in Environmental Science and Studies. She holds a B.A. from Grinnell College, and both an M.S. and Ph.D. from the University of Vermont. Her research focuses on physiological plant ecology and plant conservation, addressing relationships between ecological conditions, human activities, and plant health. Key projects include calcium partitioning in understory trees, conservation of endangered species like seaside alder and Georgia trillium, cave ecology, and plant mapping in historic cemeteries.
Dr. Borer actively mentors students in research and greenhouse management, and advises the Society of Outdoor Life and Exploration (SOLE) and Eco Club. Her teaching spans courses in microbiology, botany, ecology, and cave ecology. She integrates student participation into all research activities, emphasizing hands-on learning and environmental stewardship.
