Catherine Gascoigne

Dr. Catherine Gascoigne is a Macquarie Research Fellow (MQRF) at Macquarie Law School, holding a 100% research-focused position. She is actively affiliated with multiple research centers including the Transforming Energy Markets Research Centre, the Centre for Energy and Natural Resources Innovation and Transformation, and the Centre for Environmental Law at Macquarie University.

Her research expertise spans International Economic Law with particular focus on International Trade Law and International Investment Law, and their intersections with International Environmental Law and International Energy Law. Dr. Gascoigne is currently leading the research project 'Towards a new legal framework for adjudicating causal questions in international investment law,' which critically examines how arbitral tribunals determine causation and proposes innovative approaches to this complex legal issue.

Dr. Gascoigne's scholarly work demonstrates consistent engagement with contemporary challenges at the intersection of trade, investment, and environmental law. Her publications reveal a strong focus on causation in international dispute settlement, energy transition frameworks, and regulatory approaches to climate change. Her research output shows increasing engagement with practical policy implications of international legal frameworks.
