Professor Catherine Flick is a leading academic in ethics and games technology at Staffordshire University. Her work bridges philosophy, computer science, and societal impacts of technology. She holds a PhD in Computer Ethics from Charles Sturt University and a BSc in History/Philosophy of Science and Computer Science from the University of Sydney. Her research focuses on ethics in video games, emerging technologies like AI and blockchain, online safety, and responsible innovation.
She leads European research projects on responsible innovation in industry and co-leads the IGGI Centre for Doctoral Training’s ethical framework. As Vice-Chair of ACM’s Committee on Professional Ethics, she influences global computing ethics standards. Her work includes revising the ACM Code of Ethics and advising governments on digital policy. She co-founded the Digital Observatory, analyzing large-scale human-technology interaction data.
Publications span ethics of NFTs, AI creativity, and gaming’s societal impacts. Media appearances include BBC, NYT, and WSJ. She contributes to ACM’s Games journal and the hacker festival Electromagnetic Field.
