Catherine D'Andrea is an Assistant Professor in Archaeological Science at Simon Fraser University's Department of Archaeology. She holds a BSc from the University of Toronto, an MSc from the University of London, and a PhD from the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on early agricultural societies in the Horn of Africa, particularly Ethiopia's Pre-Aksumite period (1600-400 BCE). D'Andrea's work integrates paleoethnobotany and ethnoarchaeology to study African cereal domestication, challenging traditional Near Eastern-based models. She collaborates internationally on projects involving Ethiopia, Italy, France, and the USA. Courses taught include Archaeobotany and Old World Archaeology. She actively supports African archaeological institutions through book donations and community-driven tourism initiatives for sustainable development.
