Catherine Bevier is the Oak Professor of Biology and Chair of the African-American Studies Department at Colby College. She holds a B.S. in Biology from Indiana University (1989) and a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of Connecticut (1995).
Research Focus: Dr. Bevier's work bridges animal behavior, physiological ecology, and conservation biology. Her research emphasizes amphibian conservation, particularly the interplay between skin secretions, antimicrobial properties, epibiotic bacteria, and chytrid fungus. She also explores behavioral energetics and vocalization patterns in anurans using passive acoustic monitoring.
Publication Trends: Her recent work includes behavioral models of hydrothermal regulation in Brazil's Atlantic Forest, studies on Mink Frog metamorphosis, and analyses of skin microbiota in fragmented habitats. Themes span microbiology, ecological adaptation, and conservation policy.
Scientific Recognition:
- Oak Professor of Biology
Advising & Collaborations: She mentors students through independent studies and research projects, with notable student co-authors like S.P. Flanagan and J.W. Ashcroft. Her projects often involve interdisciplinary teams, including collaborations in the Belgrade Lakes Watershed resilience studies.
