Caterina Manco

Caterina Manco is a Research Fellow at the Department of Philosophy, University of Bologna, specializing in ancient medicine, alchemy, and classical pharmacology. Her current project focuses on digitizing Ulisse Aldrovandi's collections. She previously held research positions at the University of Montpellier and participated in the ERC-funded 'Alchemy in the Making' project.

Her research explores Greco-Roman alchemical practices, the transmission of materia medica knowledge, and the intersection of botany with classical texts. She has organized conferences on ancient plants and multidisciplinary approaches to historical sources, including workshops on digital humanities methodologies.

Manco has presented widely on Galen’s works, Dioscorides’ Materia Medica, and the evolution of medical terminology in antiquity. Her training includes a dual PhD in Greek/Latin Studies and Philosophy from Montpellier and Bologna, supported by scholarships from the École française de Rome.
