Cate Williams is a Knowledge Exchange Fellow at the Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) at Aberystwyth University, specializing in livestock science and virology. She has previously worked at the Centre of Excellence for Bovine TB on molecular genetics and epidemiology of Mycobacterium bovis.
- PhD in Rumen Protozoa & Bioinformatics (2019)
- MPhil in Bacterial Role in Lipid Metabolism (2014)
- BSc Biology (2013), both from Aberystwyth University
Her research focuses on ruminal metabolism, molecular microbiology, and livestock disease epidemiology, particularly bluetongue virus (BTV-3) transmission via Culicoides midges. Recent work highlights climate change's role in expanding disease vectors and the socioeconomic impacts on UK farming communities.
Key article trends: Analysis of BTV-3's segmented RNA genome, its reassortment-driven evolution, and implications for animal health policy under climate pressures. Keywords reflect virology, veterinary science, and environmental interactions.
