Cary Bennett

Dr. Cary Bennett is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the University of New England's Faculty of Humanities, Arts, Social Sciences and Education. His PhD and BA (Hons) were earned at the University of Newcastle, NSW, complemented by an Ass/Dip in Jazz Studies from the NSW State Conservatorium of Music.

Bennett's research examines drugs in societal contexts, health/illness paradigms, mental health frameworks, and music/visual culture through Foucauldian lenses. His work explores how discourses shape understandings of drugs, criminality, and health. Current projects investigate barriers to live music in regional Australia.

His publications analyze recreational drug use, HIV/AIDS responses, and educational interventions. Notable themes include moral panics, institutional power dynamics, and cultural inclusivity in healthcare. Awards include membership in The Australian Sociological Association (TASA).

Bennett's pedagogical expertise includes developing assessment rubrics and curriculum design for sociology education. His work bridges academic scholarship with community-focused applications in regional development and healthcare equity.
