Carvalho Maria Da Graça

Maria da Graça Carvalho is a Full Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico (University of Lisbon) with over 30 years of experience in energy, climate change, and science/innovation policy. She has held high-level policy roles in the European Commission, including Senior Adviser to the Commissioner for Research and Principal Adviser to the President of the European Commission, shaping FP7, Horizon 2020, and the European Institute of Innovation and Technology.

• Former Minister of Science & Higher Education in Portugal (2003-2005)
• Founder of a 50-person research group at IST
• Coordinator of 20+ European consortia

Her research spans energy systems modeling, combustion science, and evidence-based policy frameworks, with over 100 journal publications and 15 edited books. She chairs international panels including the Marie Curie Engineering Sciences Panel and served as Editor-in-Chief of Clean Air: International Journal on Environmental Combustion Technologies.
