Carter Cast is the Michael S. and Mary Sue Shannon Clinical Professor of Entrepreneurship at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. He holds a B.A. in Political Science from Stanford University (1985) and an M.B.A. in Strategy and Marketing from Kellogg (1992). His academic career spans roles from Clinical Assistant Professor (2011–2013) to his current endowed chair (2016–present). Dr. Cast’s research focuses on entrepreneurship, leadership, and career management, blending academic rigor with his extensive C-suite experience.
Before academia, he served as CEO of Walmart.com, CMO of Blue Nile, and VP at Electronic Arts and PepsiCo. His professional accolades include the Sidney J. Levy Teaching Award (2018, 2020, 2023), six Faculty Impact Awards, and seven nominations for Professor of the Year. He co-founded the Good Life student program and authored The Right (and Wrong) Stuff, a Forbes-recommended career guide.
Dr. Cast advises Pritzker Private Capital and sits on boards of Kellanova (NYSE: K), Heartland Company, Monogram Foods, and PLZ Corp. His research emphasizes startup strategy, leadership resilience, and career resilience, with articles in Harvard Business Review, SHRM, and Kellogg publications.
