Dr. Carrie Koenigstein serves as Associate Dean of the Natural Sciences for the College of Arts & Sciences at Anderson University, where she holds a joint appointment as Professor of Biology and Chemistry. She earned her BS in Biochemistry from Virginia Tech, M.Ed in Natural Science from Converse University, and PhD in Biochemistry from Duke University. Dr. Koenigstein began teaching at Anderson University in 2006.
Her research interests span:
- Current focus on microbiomes and bacterial populations in local streams
- Enzymology and metabolic pathway analysis
- Molecular biology and immunology applications
- Integration of faith and science through creation studies
Her publications (under maiden name Temple) primarily explore structural and mechanistic biochemistry of molybdenum-containing enzymes, with emphases on:
- X-ray crystallography of reductase enzymes
- Spectroscopic analysis of metalloproteins
- Protein engineering and expression optimization
- Bacterial enzyme systems in Rhodobacter and E. coli
Dr. Koenigstein founded the Pre-Med Boot Camp collaboration between Anderson University and AnMed Health, supervises undergraduate research, and maintains strong alumni relationships. She emphasizes hands-on lab instruction and faith-science integration in teaching biochemistry, immunology, and molecular biology.
