Carrie Epstein is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Social Work at the Child Study Center, Yale School of Medicine. She serves as Co-Director of the Yale Center for Traumatic Stress and Recovery, specializing in child trauma, traumatic grief, and disaster mental health response. With a Master of Social Work (Columbia University, 1992) and BA from the University of Pennsylvania (1987), her work focuses on developing evidence-based interventions like the Child and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI), proven to reduce PTSD symptoms in children and families.
She has led responses to major disasters including 9/11, Sandy Hook, and other mass casualty events. Her research emphasizes early intervention, telehealth applications, and program dissemination. Epstein co-leads the National Child Traumatic Stress Network’s Child Traumatic Grief-Traumatic Separation Committee and has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications. In 2023, she received the Cecilia Gastón Award for advocacy in Latinx communities.
