Professor Carolyn Semmler is a faculty member in the School of Psychology at the University of Adelaide, leading the Applied Cognition and Experimental Psychology (ACEP) research group. Her work focuses on cognition, decision-making in legal and medical contexts, and human-AI interaction for defense and national security. She explores how technology impacts human decision-making in policing, healthcare, and legal systems, emphasizing ethical applications and reducing harm.
Research areas include eyewitness identification models, juror decision-making, medical AI ethics, and meat consumption psychology. She collaborates with interdisciplinary teams on projects funded by ARC, DST Group, and others. Leadership roles include vice presidency of the Psychology Foundation of Australia and steering committee member of the EMCR Brain Science Network.
Her grants span $3M+ for projects like human-machine interfaces for stress monitoring and AI in radiology. Supervision includes PhD students Dr. Brennan Ong, Dr. Rebecca Heyer, and Dr. Dana Michaelski.
