Carolyn Jack, MD, PhD, is a Scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC) and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, McGill University. Her clinical and research work focuses on adult atopic dermatitis (AD), a prevalent and burdensome skin disorder affecting 5-10% of adults in developed countries. She established the first Canadian disease-specific human skin and blood immunophenotyping lab for chronic AD research and co-founded the Centre of Excellence for Atopic Dermatitis at the MUHC, Canada's first tertiary care clinic dedicated to adult AD.
Her expertise spans molecular biology, cellular immunology, immunophenotyping of primary human cells, in vitro disease modeling, and clinical trial methodologies. Key research themes include elucidating immune mechanisms in AD pathogenesis, developing targeted therapies through cytokine inhibition (e.g., IL-13), and leveraging electronic tools for disease severity measurement. Recent publications highlight collaborations on tape strip diagnostics, type 2 immunity in skin diseases, and clinical management strategies for Dupilumab-treated patients.
Current affiliations include the Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health Program at RI-MUHC and the Division of Dermatology, Department of Medicine, MUHC. Her lab employs multidisciplinary approaches integrating skin biospecimen analysis, immunophenotyping platforms, and clinical trials to identify disease-modifying interventions for chronic AD.
