Carolyn Bayer

Carolyn Bayer is an Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering at Tulane University's School of Science & Engineering. She holds a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin (2009) and conducts research in novel medical imaging methods, particularly ultrasound and contrast-enhanced photoacoustic systems for studying placental function and pregnancy complications. Her lab focuses on molecular expression dynamics and physiological function in compromised pregnancies.

Bayer's research integrates imaging system development, algorithm creation for functional/molecular imaging, and contrast agent evaluation. She received the Ruth L. Kirschstein NRSA Fellowship (2011-2014) and maintains collaborations through the NIH My Bibliography system. Her recent publications demonstrate strong focus on preeclampsia mechanisms and advanced imaging techniques.

Bayer teaches courses including Product & Experimental Design and Bioengineering of Women's Reproductive Health. Her lab develops translational approaches connecting imaging technology with clinical applications in maternal-fetal medicine.
