Dr. Caroline Zeind serves as Vice President for Academic Affairs/Provost at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS), where she oversees 14 schools serving over 7,000 students across three campuses in Boston, Worcester, and Manchester, NH, as well as extensive online programs. Appointed to this position in June 2018, she is the university's chief academic officer with extensive experience in academic administration and pharmacy education.
Dr. Zeind's educational background includes a BA from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville College of Liberal Arts, a PharmD from the University of Tennessee, Memphis Health Sciences Center, and a PhD in Health Professions Education from Massachusetts General Hospital Institute of Health Professions. She also completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Memphis and holds a Harvard Management Development Certificate from Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Her research interests span multiple critical areas in healthcare and education, including Higher Education Leadership/Administration, Interprofessional Education, Program Evaluation in Health Professions Education, Travel Medicine/Infectious Diseases, and Medication/Patient Safety. Dr. Zeind has made significant contributions to understanding how healthcare professionals can better serve travelers through her work on infectious disease prevention and management.
Analysis of Dr. Zeind's scholarly publications reveals a consistent focus on pharmacotherapy, travel medicine, and health professions education. Her most recent work (2023) continues her longstanding commitment to drug therapy reference materials as co-editor-in-chief of the 12th edition of Applied Therapeutics. Earlier publications demonstrate her expertise in infectious diseases, particularly travel-related illnesses, and her interest in educational methodologies for health professionals.

Throughout her career, Dr. Zeind has demonstrated exceptional leadership in academic administration and pharmacy education. She has served as Chairman of the Clinical Pharmacy Department, Associate Dean in the School of Pharmacy, and held multiple provost-level positions including Associate Provost for Academic and International Affairs. Her international work has included academic collaborations in Malaysia, Japan, and the Middle East. She co-founded the Brigham and Women's Hospital and MCPHS Pharmacy Fellowship Program in Outcomes Research and Informatics and has been actively involved with professional organizations including the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy and the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists.
Dr. Zeind's work extends to interdisciplinary projects across pharmacy, medicine, nursing, dentistry and other health sciences programs. Her leadership in international affairs through the Center for International Studies has facilitated numerous global health initiatives. As a former clinical pharmacist at Tufts Medical Center, she brings practical clinical experience to her academic leadership roles, bridging the gap between theory and practice in health professions education.
