Dr. Caroline Wilson-Barnao is a Lecturer in the School of Communication and Arts at the University of Queensland, where she also serves as Director of Museum Studies. Her affiliations include the Centre of Architecture, Theory, Criticism and History; the Research Centre in Creative Arts and Human Flourishing; and the Centre for Digital Cultures & Societies. She holds an HEA Fellowship and is a member of the CPRA Queensland Board, the Digital Cultures and Society group, and the Museums Association of Critical Heritage Studies.
Her research focuses on museums, digital humanities, and the intersection of technology with cultural practices. Notable works include her 2022 book Museums as Platforms and co-authored Collecting Social Media: From object to content (forthcoming). She explores topics like born-digital collecting, museums' role in soft power, and the impact of social media on cultural institutions.
Caroline has supervised PhD students in areas such as museums and digital transformation, and her work spans journals like Curator: The Museum Journal and Body and Society. Her research also addresses gender studies, urban cultural landscapes, and heritage tourism.
