Caroline Nordenvall is an Associate Professor and clinically active colorectal surgeon at Karolinska Institutet and Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. She leads the Colorectal Surgery research group and focuses on epidemiological and clinical studies related to inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colorectal cancer. Nordenvall heads the Swedish quality register for IBD patients and is a board member of the National Working Group for IBD (NAG-IBD).

Her research includes the CRUISE study (Colectomy and Reconstruction in Ulcerative colitis in Sweden and England) and the CIM-IBD study (immunological analyses of IBD resectates). She also works on registry-based studies through CRCBaSe and Megalinking, and clinical trials like Stockholm III and ALASCCA.
She supervises 11 PhD students and 3 postdocs. Nordenvall has received research funding from the Swedish Society for Medical Research (SSMF), Ihre Fellowship, and Region Stockholm. Recent awards include the Regional Prize of Stora Forskarpriset and the Bengt Ihre Scholarship 2024, recognizing her contributions to IBD surgery and colorectal research.
