Caroline Mellgren

Caroline Mellgren is an Assistant Professor of Criminology at Malmö University with joint appointments in the Department of Police Work and Department of Criminology within the Faculty of Health and Society. She currently serves as Head of the Department of Police Work, which oversees undergraduate education for police officers and conducts policing research.

Her research examines several interconnected areas:

• Patterns and causes of public insecurity
• Hate crime dynamics and prevention
• Police methodologies and operational practices
• Pedagogical development in police training programs

Notably, she recently completed a 5-year evaluation of Malmö's 'Stop Shooting' initiative, a violence prevention strategy modeled on the Group Violence Intervention approach, and has pioneered research on driving simulator implementation in police training.

She is affiliated with the Center for Police Research and Prevention, which focuses on developing and disseminating knowledge about effective crime interventions, and participates in the 'People, Places and Prevention' research platform examining social contexts of crime.
