Charlotta Thodelius is an Associate Professor of Criminology and Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Police Work, University of Borås, within the Department of Police Education. She serves as Program Coordinator for the Bachelor's Programme in Police Work with a focus on crime investigation (starting spring 2025) and leads the Police Studies research group.
Her research focuses on the interaction between individuals and environments with emphasis on criminological situations. Key research interests include situational prevention strategies, spatial aspects of crime, youth risk environments, violence in school settings, suicide issues, and the relationship between crime and both physical and digital environments.
Dr. Thodelius's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on practical applications of criminological theory to real-world police work and crime prevention. Her work bridges theoretical criminology with practical police education and operational strategies, particularly examining how environmental design and organizational collaboration impact crime prevention outcomes.
Among her notable achievements is her doctoral thesis which pioneered interdisciplinary approaches combining criminological and sociological theories with architectural perspectives to understand youth risks.
As an academic mentor, she serves as Assistant Supervisor for doctoral students including Jens Widmark at Malmö University's Department of Criminology. She teaches in both the Police Education Programme and the Bachelor's Programme in Police Work, with specialization in crime investigation.
