Caroline Kaltefleiter is Professor of Communication and Media Studies and affiliate faculty in Women’s Studies and Gender Studies at SUNY Cortland. She earned her Ph.D. from Ohio University's Scripps College of Communication, an M.A. in Film and Media Studies from Miami University, and an A.B.J. in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Georgia. Her work bridges academic scholarship with community engagement through radio production and youth activism.
Research Focus: Kaltefleiter's interdisciplinary research examines punk subcultures, DIY media production, and anarchist praxis through frameworks of cultural studies and feminist theory. She investigates how grassroots movements utilize zines, alternative media, and digital platforms to resist systemic oppression. Current projects analyze mutual aid networks, youth-led climate activism, and the legacy of Riot Grrrl feminism in contemporary social justice movements.

Media & Outreach: As Executive Producer and Host of NPR-affiliated podcast The Digital Divide, she explores technology's societal impacts. Her community work focuses on documenting youth-led initiatives addressing climate justice and food insecurity through participatory media methods.
