Caroline Jolly is a CNRS Research Officer (Chargée de Recherche de Classe Normale) at the Laboratory of Psychology and NeuroCognition (LPNC, UMR 5105) at Grenoble Alpes University since 2000. As a permanent member of LPNC's Development and Learning team, she conducts interdisciplinary research bridging cognitive neuroscience, education, and clinical psychology to address childhood writing disorders.
Her academic background includes:
- PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology from Université Grenoble Alpes (1997) on "Genes induced by stress"
- Postdoctoral training at Northwestern University (1998-1999) with Prof. Morimoto studying heat shock gene regulation
Dr. Jolly's research centers on two interconnected pillars: (1) unraveling cognitive and sensorimotor mechanisms in children's handwriting acquisition, and (2) developing objective diagnostic tools for developmental dysgraphia. Her work integrates kinematic analysis, eye-tracking, and machine learning to decode writing pathologies, with particular focus on how developmental coordination disorder (dyspraxia) and dyslexia manifest in graphomotor patterns. This translational approach directly informs clinical assessment protocols.
Her publication trajectory (2014-2023) reveals a strategic pivot from molecular neuroscience to applied cognitive science, marked by increasing collaboration with computer scientists and clinicians. Recent work demonstrates how tablet-based sensors and AI algorithms can transform handwriting analysis from subjective observation to quantifiable biomarkers, enabling earlier dysgraphia detection.
