Caroline Heimhofer is a Researcher at the Institute of Human Movement Sciences and Sport (IBWS), ETH Zürich. Her work focuses on understanding neural mechanisms underlying motor control, motor fatigability, and neuroplasticity. Key research areas include the impact of sleep on motor performance, neural correlates of finger individuation, and the application of neurofeedback techniques to enhance motor function. She investigates how aging affects motor systems and explores interventions to mitigate motor decline. Her studies utilize advanced neuroimaging and electrophysiological methods, including TMS and fMRI. Recent work highlights the role of sensorimotor cortex dynamics in fatigue and the potential of auditory stimulation to modulate sleep-related motor recovery. Dr. Heimhofer’s research bridges fundamental neuroscience with applied aspects of human movement optimization.
