Dr. Caroline Fielder is an Associate Professor in Chinese Studies at the University of Leeds, affiliated with the School of Languages, Cultures and Societies within the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures. Her research focuses on religion in contemporary China, civil society, charity organizations, and the Chinese diaspora in the UK. She holds a PhD from the University of Leeds, an MPhil from the University of Birmingham, and a BA from Durham University.

Research Interests: Examines the role of religiously inspired charitable organizations in shaping civil society in China and explores the evolving identity of Chinese diaspora communities in the UK, emphasizing marginalized narratives and cultural diversity. Her work challenges monolithic perceptions of Chinese diaspora experiences.
Professional Experience: Includes five years in business, eight years as Director of China Desk for CTBI, and three years working with the Amity Foundation in China. She has taught in China, including at Renmin University as a visiting scholar.
Awards: Recipient of the prestigious White Rose East Asia Centre (WREAC) scholarship for her PhD research.
Leadership Roles: MA Programme Manager, Subject Research Leader, and PGR Liaison for East Asian Studies at the University of Leeds.
