Dr Caroline Alexander is an Honorary Clinical Senior Lecturer and Adjunct Reader in the Department of Surgery & Cancer at Imperial College London. She has been a clinical academic physiotherapist at the Trust since 2003, specializing in musculoskeletal outpatient care and research. Her research focuses on understanding motor control, kinematics, strength, and fatigue in individuals with widespread pain and hypermobile joints, aiming to distinguish clinical pathways for hypermobile patients with and without pain.
She holds leadership roles, including Lead Clinical Academic for Therapies, Chair of the Clinical Academic Research Committee for Healthcare Professionals outside of Medicine, and membership in committees such as the AHSC Education Committee and ICHT research groups. She is a founding member of the London hub for the Council for Allied Health Professional Research and actively mentors through her role as a NIHR Training Advocate.
Her academic journey includes a PhD in neurophysiology from University College London (UCL) and prior clinical experience as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist and lecturer. She leads a lab within the physiotherapy department and collaborates with Prof Alison McGregor’s MSK Labs. Her work bridges clinical practice and research, aiming to improve therapies for patients with chronic musculoskeletal conditions.
