Carolina Henriques is a Guest Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at ISCTE-University Institute of Lisbon's School of Sociology and Public Policies. She is also an Integrated Researcher at DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte - Center for Studies on Socioeconomic Change and Territory, focusing on Governance, Economy and Citizenship.
Her research interests span Urban Studies, Transdisciplinarity, Epistemology of Social Sciences, Sociology, Economic and Social Geography, and Anthropology. She approaches urban phenomena through interdisciplinary lenses, examining how social transformations manifest in spatial productions, particularly in contexts of housing crises and food systems. Her work emphasizes the importance of transdisciplinary approaches to understanding complex urban challenges and developing innovative solutions.
Henriques' publications demonstrate a consistent focus on urban food systems in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, territorial planning frameworks, and the epistemological foundations of social sciences. Her research reveals patterns connecting grassroots initiatives with policy frameworks, highlighting how local practices can inform broader planning approaches. She has contributed significantly to understanding the spatial dimensions of social transformations, particularly in contexts of housing occupations and food system transitions.
As an educator, she teaches Classical Sociological Theories and Institutions and Social Change at the undergraduate level. Her research projects include Homes2live (2024-2026), which examines social transformations in occupied houses in Lisbon's Amendoeiras neighborhood, and the Popular Incubator of Help project (2019-2020), which focused on local economic and socio-environmental development in three BIP territories.
She works within DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte, a research center dedicated to socioeconomic change and territory studies, where she contributes to understanding urban transformations through both theoretical and applied research approaches. Her work bridges academic research with practical interventions in urban communities, particularly through projects addressing housing and food system challenges.
