Carolina Castillo Martinez

Carolina Castillo Martinez serves as a Professor in the Department of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law, University of Valencia, and is an active member of the GEDPED Study Group on European Private and Digital Law.

She obtained her Doctorate from the Universitat de València in 1993 with her thesis "Responsabilidad del deudor y responsabilidad del sujeto pasivo de la relación de hipoteca" (Debtor's liability and liability of the passive subject in the mortgage relationship), supervised by Dr. Jaime Vidal Martínez.

Her research centers on Civil Law with specialized expertise in European Private Law and Digital Law. She investigates the application of civil law doctrines to digital contexts and mortgage liability frameworks, particularly examining debtor obligations and passive subject responsibilities in mortgage relationships. Current work through the GEDPED group addresses evolving challenges in European digital private law.

Professor Castillo Martinez contributes to the GEDPED Study Group on European Private and Digital Law, which develops legal frameworks for private law adaptation in digital environments across European jurisdictions.
