Carolina Alarcón

Dr. Carolina Alarcón is an Assistant Professor of Art History at Southern Illinois University (SIU), specializing in early modern period studies. Her research bridges art and science, focusing on cross-cultural exchanges through prints and anatomical illustrations in 15th-16th century Spain. She is author of the upcoming book Materia Medica: Anatomical Illustrations in Early Modern Spain, and her next project explores 16th-century chronicles of South America's conquest and landscapes.

Previously, she served as a Visiting Professor in Early Modern Art History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2018-2020) and was a Fulbright Research Fellow at the University of Valencia (2016-2017). She organized symposia at the Lopez Piñero Institute for the History of Science and Medicine in 2016 and 2017.

Her work has been presented at conferences including the Renaissance Society of America and the Association of Art Historians (UK). She currently holds office in Allyn Building 007C and can be reached at carolina.alarcon@siu.edu.
