Carol Vaness serves as a Distinguished Professor of Music (Voice) at Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music, where she teaches within the Voice Department located in Merrill Hall (MU215A). A world-renowned operatic soprano, she maintains an active international performance career while contributing to music education at one of America's premier conservatories.
Her educational foundation includes:
- Bachelor of Arts from California State Polytechnic University (1970)
- Master of Arts from California State University North Ridge (1973)
Professor Vaness specializes in dramatic soprano repertoire with exceptional focus on Mozart's heroines and Puccini's Tosca. Her interpretations of Vitellia in La Clemenza di Tito are considered definitive, and she is particularly celebrated for her portrayal of Floria Tosca opposite Luciano Pavarotti in his final operatic performance at the Metropolitan Opera (2004).
Her career encompasses performances at every major international opera house including the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera Covent Garden, Paris Opera, Chicago Lyric Opera, and Gran Teatro del Liceo, alongside appearances at the Salzburg Festival.
