Carol Tishelman

Carol Tishelman is an Unpaid Guest Professor at the Department of Family Medicine and Chronic Care at Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. She is affiliated with the End-of-Life Care Research Group, focusing on death literacy, palliative care, and public health implications of grief and loss.

• Active in cross-cultural validation studies of the Death Literacy Index
• Lead research on compassionate workplaces for end-of-life care
• Explored pandemic and ecological discourses in children's art

Her work spans transdisciplinary collaborations across Belgium, Sweden, Canada, and the Netherlands. Recent projects include the EU-CoWork initiative for workplace health promotion and psychometric evaluations of death literacy tools.

She co-organized the Co-creating Compassionate Workplaces workshop in 2025 and participates in participatory research models across four European countries.
