Carol Routledge is an Honorary Professor and Entrepreneur in Residence (EIR) at the University of Exeter, with over 30 years of experience in pharmaceutical and biotechnology R&D. Her career spans leadership roles at Syntex, Wyeth, BTG, and GSK, focusing on neuroscience drug development, and she currently serves as Chief Medical & Scientific Officer at Small Pharma, a company developing treatments for mental health disorders. She has also led Alzheimer’s Research UK’s global research strategy and founded the Early Detection of Neurodegenerative diseases (EDoN) initiative.
Education:
- BSc in Zoology (1st Class Honors), University of Nottingham
- PhD in Neuropharmacology and Neuroscience, The Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham
Carol’s research interests integrate neuroscience and clinical development to advance psychedelic-assisted therapies for mental health. She spearheads AI-driven digital tools for early detection of neurodegenerative diseases, advises AI-focused drug discovery companies, and supports academic commercialization through her EIR role. Her work bridges preclinical and clinical translational medicine, targeting psychiatric and neurological conditions like Alzheimer’s.
