معرفی
Carol Hischmugl is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Physics at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her research focuses on surface physics, particularly the interaction of adsorbates with oxide systems, using advanced techniques like synchrotron-based infrared spectroscopy and low-energy electron diffraction.
- Education: BSc in Physics from Stony Brook University (1987), PhD in Applied Physics from Yale University (1994)
- Research Areas: Surface dynamics, biochemical imaging, graphene-based materials, and environmental physics
- Affiliations: Director of the Laboratory for Dynamics and Structure at Surfaces, UWM; former visiting scientist at ANKA (Germany) and ESRF (France)
- Collaborations: Extensive interdisciplinary work with colleagues in materials science, biophysics, and chemistry
Her recent publications highlight innovations in infrared spectromicroscopy, graphene engineering, and biochemical analysis. Key applications span environmental science, medical diagnostics, and nanotechnology.
- Scientific Awards: Fellow of the American Vacuum Society (2014), multiple NSF grants, Research Corporation Research Innovation award
- Grants: Current support from UWM Research Growth Initiative and Southeastern Wisconsin Energy Technology Research Center
Hirschmugl actively engages in mentoring, having guided seven REU students and one RET high school teacher.
