Carol H MacKay serves as J.R. Millikan Centennial Professor of English Literature and University Distinguished Teaching Professor at the University of Texas at Austin's College of Liberal Arts.
Her research specializes in:
- Victorian fiction and novels
- Women's autobiographical writing
- Works by Charles Dickens, Thackeray, Brontës, and Virginia Woolf
Dr. MacKay teaches numerous courses including British Women Writers, 19th Century British Novel, Women's Autobiographical Writing, and Victorian Life-Writing, often cross-listed between English, Women's and Gender Studies, and Comparative Literature departments.
She earned her Ph.D. from UCLA in 1979 and maintains an active teaching schedule through Fall 2025. Her organizational affiliation includes the Friends of the Dickens Project, reflecting her scholarly focus.
