Carol Aru is a Researcher working on the SFB project "Speaker's choices in creole contexts: Bislama and Morisien" (SFB Register A02) since June 1, 2020, initially at ZAS (Leibniz-Zentrum Allgemeine Sprachwissenschaft) and from August 2021 at the Vanuatu Cultural Centre. She concurrently serves as a Teacher of English as a Foreign and Second Language.
Her research centers on Bislama, an English-based Creole spoken throughout Vanuatu, with specific focus on speaker choices amid available linguistic varieties and contextual adaptation of language forms. This work bridges theoretical linguistics with real-world language use in Pacific Island communities.
