معرفی
Carmine Todaro serves as a Fixed-term tenure-track Assistant Professor at the Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI) of Polytechnic University of Turin, where he is affiliated with the Tunelling & Rock Engineering (TRE) laboratory. He contributes to multiple academic programs including Environmental and Land Engineering, Georesources and Geoenergy Engineering, and Agritech Engineering, while also serving on the Academic Board for the Civil and Environmental Engineering PhD program.
His research centers on excavation engineering and safety, with specialized expertise in tunnelling mechanics, soil/rock conditioning for EPB-TBMs, ground improvement techniques, and sustainable mining practices. Current investigations include two-component grout durability, innovative wear prevention methods in rock excavation, and sustainable reuse of tunneling excavated materials, all emphasizing occupational safety and environmental impact reduction.
Analysis of his 15 most recent publications (2022-2025) reveals a consistent focus on mechanized tunneling challenges, particularly grout behavior, soil conditioning optimization, and tool wear mechanisms. These works integrate laboratory experimentation, field data analysis, and statistical modeling to address practical engineering problems in underground construction, with growing emphasis on circular economy principles in tunneling operations.
He actively supervises PhD candidate Alfio Di Giovanni (39th cycle, 2023-present) in Civil and Environmental Engineering and leads multiple funded research initiatives including ARCITunLin (2025-2026) for tunnel lining risk assessment, FSM2C (2023-2025) for marble slurry reuse in bicomponent mortars, and eight commercial contracts addressing soil conditioning, grout innovation, and highway tunnel risk assessment (2023-2025).
As a core member of the Tunelling & Rock Engineering (TRE) laboratory at DIATI, he directs experimental programs on foam conditioning systems, TBM excavation parameters, and wear-resistant materials, maintaining strong industry partnerships through ongoing commercial research contracts with tunneling contractors and equipment manufacturers.
